South Penzance
I like where I live because:
- It’s Penzance isn’t it
- It is not too expensive and close to the town
- New Street is a peaceful, central Road
- Close proximity to shops and local facilities, become important in later life. Also physical exercise with a good promenade and parks etc. is also necessary
- I love the sea views I find it health giving
- Central, as in middle of town – can walk to all locations including public transport hubs, beach and work
- It is in the centre of town but located away from main roads so is very quiet
- Close proximity to amenities, yet quiet with sea views
- I have easy access to interesting shops, post office, pubs, restaurants, cinema, buses, trains, Morrab Gardens, Penlee Park, the promenade, view of Mounts Bay, art galleries
- Easy access to shops, the promenade and open countryside
- We chose to move here
- Near sea, sea views, near local amenities, architecturally interesting area (and historically)
- Property and locality has character and good sense of community
- It is central and handy for most things
- Facilities and amenities locally are good. I live in a friendly square which feels like a community within a community with no/little through traffic
- It is peaceful and halfway between the shops and the sea, and we have parking for 2
- It is convenient for town, quiet yet in the centre of town. Surrounded by nice neighbours
- Near amenities, friendly town, socially mixed, plenty of club societies, educational opportunities
- It is a small square so neighbours chat and watch out for one another
- Easy access to all facilities
- Near the seas, not so many foreigner’s
- The strong community, the views of Mounts Bay, access to town centre facilities and proximity to open spaces
- Close view of sea, adequate size, affordable
- It is in Berkhamsted, I also love 18 South Terrace Penzance (our holiday home) I have drawn up plans for redevelopment email me for details. I would like a massive 306 million + development right from the long rock side of the railway station to Newlyn inclusive
- It is convenient for all amenities
- I live very close to the coast and can walk to shops etc.
- We are easily visited by Doctors and community nurses and other vital services due to us being 80% disabled with a heart condition
- I am near the seafront, I walk through Morrab gardens into town
- We are close to my children’s school, town centre, parks and promenade
- Location, neighbours
- Near sea, easy access trains/buses/shops, countryside view
- It is a good location
- It is close to my place of work and close to the sea and a range of facilities. Its quiet and peaceful.
- Quiet road, near to park, near to town centre
- Central location, Penzance is a great town, Penlee gallery, Morrab library, promenade, causeway head, cafes
- Good town centre, nice prom
- There are many things to do in Penzance. Almost all of it on my doorstep
- Easy access to my immediate needs
- Its Penzance! Its close to beach, parks, shops, school.
I don’t like where I live because:
- Parking. Too many houses are multi-occupied. When I return from work at 11pm I usually have to park 3 streets away – sometimes further – and I have kit to unload
- The neighbours are miserable
- I’m very happy with where I live
- Vagrants, alcoholics, dog mess, lack of gardening, cleaning weeds etc.
- I am interested in becoming involved in the neighbourhood plan
- N/A
- Cobbles! Prevent safe walking, rough sleepers etc.
- Lack of parking
- Seagulls and their noise
- Street parking and parking on pavements causes problems at busy times
- N/A
- Wet and windy especially in the winter, dog mess on roads, rubbish bins, signage, back lanes poorly maintained
- Speed of passing traffic and difficulty in parking due to cars left on the prom while owners go to work or got to Scillies on holiday.
- Not near shops, extreme weather, no nearby bus service
- I am worried about the risk of flooding and wish that the prom lights were not so bright. The light pollution means you can’t see the sea.
- There is now no local post office, Doctors surgeries are difficult to reach if you are disabled & elderly
- I am near the sea front! Now my home is in a flood risk area
- N/A
- Dirty streets
- Don’t know
- One owner on our terrace refuses to contribute to the shared upkeep of the communal grounds, the bins at the back of the Taj Mahal make It look unsightly.
- Dog mess, yobs in Morrab Garden bandstand, over zealous traffic wardens
- Having come from the Bodmin area it is a bit one ended
- Generally not suitable sized housing for older people to downsize. E.g. 2 bed properties usually have small living space
- It is a nightmare to park near my home, but I would take where I live and walk to car over living out of town
What would you most like to change about where you live:
- Fewer cats, impose fine on dog owners that dong clean up
- Cars racing up and down the road
- The kind of uplifting of the area as outlined in much of proposals in the PZNP will improve business opportunities In Penzance and quality of life for residents and visitors alike
- I no longer wish to live here, its not what it was when I purchased it in 1985
- Parking – too many cars parking on double yellow lines causing obstructions. Pedestrianize more of town
- Access to our car parking space can be difficult as people park on double yellow lines opposite the entrance
- Making dog owners responsible for cleaning up the mess they leave. Penzance is the dog mess capital of the UK -Not pleasant.
- Parking near home is difficult/impossible particularly in the summer. Residents parking wouldn’t solve this because there are too many residents in the street – wouldn’t be guaranteed a space if we paid for a residents permit
- Empty shops on the edge of town turned into houses
- I am an essential business car user (Cornwall Council). We really need residents parking for those people who live in the town centre. It is wrong that I get ticketed in the bays outside my house in my street
- 1) Enforcement of existing parking restrictions and laws 2) annual gull cull 3) resolution of planning flight affecting area around Quay street
- Litter, general regeneration of PZ area
- Free parking for residents
- Removal of Seagulls. Residential Parking
- Issue penalties for pavement parking. Resurface the road properly outside mine and neighbours houses. A listed square deserves a decent road surface at least.
- A sandy beach, i.e. a breakwater!
- Most things are not possible due to being built in centre of town, i.e. garages and easy parking! Dog mess right outside your back door is unacceptable. Better dog fouling policy! Parking across back lane, therefore blocking access most days especially during the summer.
- Parking free or much cheaper, shop owner required to maintain appearance of buildings. Some no parking areas – esp. double yellow lines
- Nothing
- Street cleaning in St Mary’s Terrace and removal of rubbish bins on pavement by St Mary’s Place.
- More activity on the prom
- Introduce the traffic calming measures and residents only permit parking on the promenade
- Have security of tenure
- Residents parking or pedestrianize Queen Street
- With the weather changes I would like the break water no 16 to be looked into further
- Police patrols of Morrab Gardens and deter littering and damage to plants etc.
- We would like a local shop and post office and also a bus stop on the prom to get to the bust station and up into Penzance, also disability access on the buses and shops. Better disability access to shops and businesses. Namely The Cornishman office in Penzance. Breaks the DDA 1995 and 2000 A250 The Equality Act 2010, MP should do more
- Flood control. Implementation of ’16’ breakwater
- Parking for residents would be good for the summer time
- Less homeless, alcoholics, unemployed, drug users
- Improve a dull town – all charity, pawn and pound shops. We need more selection and style. No more out of town supermarkets. They take trade away from town
- Don’t know
- 1) A bin store for Biffa bins at rear of Taj Mahal. 2) A crossing in vicinity of the Lugger to the prom. 3) Non-smoking parks and prom. 4) Replacing phone boxes with traditional red boxes including at South West entrance of Morrab Gardens. 5) Improve recycling system so we don’t have a tub and 3 bags. 6) Resurfacing prom. 7) Dealing with derelict sites and empty shops. 8) Free car parking in town
- Parking situation
- Parking issue, too many spots taken by B&B’s problem for residents. Less double yellow lines
- Not much
- Parking facility could be improved. E.g. one side of the road restricted 7pm-8am. Could be available parking from 5pm.
- Clean streets! Community pride in the town
