Promenade

Promenade

I like where I live because:

  • Near school and shop, lots of children
  • I can reach town it is up hill however the local co-op is a flat walk. I have some issues with walking up hill
  • It is a beautiful part of Penzance close to all amenities – great neighbours very pretty
  • Near the sea, good pub, good neighbours
  • Convenient for everything without needing to drive. Close to sea
  • I chose to retire here as opposed to anywhere else in Britain. Previously I lived in France. Penzance is a great town with lots of cultural incentives to live here, Art galleries and good restaurants.
  • Everything is within walking distance
  • Close to sea front and town
  • It is located within walking distance of necessary amenities
  • I like the area and its close to the town and sea front
  • Convenient position for all needs. Good neighbours who maintain their properties
  • Location, access to shops and services
  • Close to town and cafes and Penlee park
  • It’s private
  • It’s very central – easy access to all things I need
  • My house is ideally situated between Penzance shopping centre and the promenade, and has a garage
  • I see lots of people pass by
  • I was born here, good people, low crime
  • It is close to the promenade and it is convenient for shopping in the town. Supermarkets co-op and Lidl close by should I choose to shop there
  • It seems to be the warmest place in the country and all the basics are accessible
  • Close to the sea, a lovely looking street, until recently it was kept clean and tidy, easy walk to town
  • I am very close to shops (Co-op & Lidl at Wherry town) and Laundrette (In the casino) Post box even nearer! I love living near the sea, and can walk everywhere I want to go. Downside: a long way to bus/train station
  • It is close to town and the sea front
  • Location in the centre of town
  • It is friendly, it’s a beautiful area. I am near the town, the park and the sea front

I don’t like where I live because:

  • No crossing on Alverton Road opposite the Ropewalk to the kissing gates. Kids cross busy road, needs a crossing
  • Seagull noise, rain
  • Dog walkers do not collect dog mess, wet leaves are dangerous for old peeps
  • Irresponsible dog owners, feel they can treat existing by laws re dog fouling with contempt
  • Dog mess on the beaches, parks, pavements and streets
  • Fly tippers use our back lane. There has been a fridge, plaster board, cooker hood etc. Just at the top end, worse at the bottom
  • The environment is shabby e.g. unpainted letter box, vandalised phone box
  • Dog poo a real nuisance, have to pick up every few days from outside house and back lane
  • Not much recreation stuff in the eves. Just pubs and I don’t smoke so going in is unpleasant
  • Crazy parking in roads around the area
  • Litter and dog waster is an awful problem around streets
  • No comments. This is a very pleasant place to live
  • Washing facilities are not at ground level
  • Alexandra Road is busy and consequently noisy. I would like a small garden to grow vegetables.
  • Conservation area, becoming dirty/ill kept, no garden, no local shops, back lanes dirty and scruffy
  • Car parking is too expensive, should be £1 for four hours £2 a day then the streets would be clearer, shops busier and car parks full so Council richer, not rocket science!
  • Noise in the street at the weekend by drunk people leaving the night club “sound” which is a disgrace
  • Wherry town looks a mess – and I feel ashamed of it. Cars going down the narrow terrace, people parking all day who work in town

What would you most like to change about where you live:

  • Put a park in Alverton near school and a crossing by the kissing gates opposite the Ropewalk
  • I think the greatest issue where I live is the road access and parking issues, which could be altered if the residents were consulted and one on person in particular listened too.
  • Parking is a real issue here as in all of Penzance – so residents parking would be good but at times to suit the working family. “Please” more indoor activities for both residents and tourists when weather is poor
  • Shoot seagulls, more sunshine
  • Fine dog pooers, clean leaves
  • Enforcement of by laws to relevant dog owners where it hurts in their pockets and maybe deprived of the right to own a dog
  • Fine dog owners who let their dogs foul
  • For the tippers including landlord of flats in Mennaye Road to be caught and fined
  • Better litter and verge collection / care
  • Owners and users being made aware of their responsibilities
  • Improve Penzance generally, make landlords maintain their properties in town, especially drain pipes. Build more houses outside town centre, 100s of them
  • To have yellow-lining (instead of usual junction markings) around the 7 converging junctions to stop parking at/on/doubled-up at the junctions. No policing of illegal parking.
  • More dog waste bins and better policing of litter dropping and not scooping poop!
  • Like many of my neighbours we have great concerns about the number and quality of shops in Penzance town. Allowing supermarkets like Sainsbury’s puts all local traders at a a disadvantage and is a big mistake
  • A nearer bus route
  • Nothing in particular
  • Difficult to say. Double glazing would improve the sound insulation but I don’t think it is aesthetically pleasing in a Victorian house! Only a move could solve the problems in “5” above
  • Kept cleaner by Council, prom improved
  • More frequent buses down Alexandra Road and an evening service (The one in the winter timetable doesn’t exist!)
  • Residents only parking, less dog mess, tidier properties
  • as above
  • Less traffic in Leskinnick Street, less noise by arguing and drunk people at night
  • Development of wherry town area, residents parking
