Referendum

A Referendum will be held on Thursday, 31st July 2025 to decide the question:

“Do you want Cornwall Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Penzance Parish to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”

Voting “Yes” will ensure that future planning decisions will take account of local views on issues that really matter.

Developed and written by the local community, the Penzance Neighbourhood Plan sets out planning policies specific to our Penzance Civil Parish area: covering – Penzance, Newlyn, Mousehole, Paul, Heamoor, Gulval, and Eastern Green.

How to apply to vote

Applications to register to vote or to vote by post or proxy should be made to the Electoral Registration Officer at 4th Floor, South Wing, County Hall, Treyew Road, Truro, TR1 3AY based on the deadlines set out below:

New applications to register to vote – deadline 12 midnight on Tuesday, 15th July 2025. Applications can be made online: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

New applications to vote by post or to cancel or amend an existing postal/proxy vote – deadline 5pm on Wednesday, 16th July 2025. Applications for a postal vote can be made online: www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote

New applications to vote by proxy – deadline 5pm on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025. Applications for a proxy vote can be made online: www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote

New applications for a Voter Authority Certificate – deadline 5pm on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025. Got to https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate

Applications for an emergency proxy vote (in cases where unforeseen illness, incapacity, occupation, service or employment occurs after the deadline for proxy applications) – deadline 5 pm on Thursday, 31st July 2025.

The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025.
To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5 pm on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025.
